LEGO Statics Kit

The prompt for this project is to develop a 10-piece LEGO set that teaches part of a college-level statics course. With Libby Albanese, Tyrine Jamella Pangan, and Rachel Bachelder, we designed a kit that helps students visualize different types of support reactions

Details

After playing around with different configurations in the computer software, we selected 10 LEGO pieces from the popular MINDSTORMS EV3 series. As shown from the renderings below, the limited number of LEGO pieces can be used to construct 5 different types of support structures. By building the structures and learning from an accompanying manual, we hope that students can gain a better understanding of the topic through hands-on experience.
